The National Gallery, in the background, is home to
an excellent permanent collection of art, both modern and
traditional. It also hosts major international temporary
exhibits. Admission to the permanent collection is free,
so you can enjoy it a little bit at a time, returning
often, instead of being overwhelmed on a single visit. In
the foreground are just a few of the tulips that are
virtually everywhere in the capital in late April and
early May. © 1999 Richard McGuire
