Though government is Ottawa's main industry, tourism
is second. Ottawa's natural beauty is as much of a draw
for tourists as the city's museums, archtecture and
beautiful parks and streetscapes. Here, at Rideau Falls,
the Rideau River empties dramatically over a cliff into
the Ottawa River. "Rideau" is French for
"curtain" and with a little imagination that is
what the falls look like. Both small craft and larger
tour boats approach the base of the falls. © 1999 Richard McGuire
