For those wanting to escape the crowds of Ottawa,
Gatineau Park on the Quebec side of the rivers is only 15
minutes away -- if you don't get stuck crossing a bridge.
Hundreds of kilometres of trails are open to walkers and
mountain bikers, and in the winter to cross-country
skiers. The park is very large, and it is possible to
escape to a real wilderness experience. Wild animals such
as beavers and deer are quite common. Others such as
coyotes, black bears and timber wolves inhabit the park,
but are less commonly encountered. © 1999 Richard McGuire |
